Life Cycle And Other Facts About Household Cockroaches

If living outdoors, cockroaches thrive and could actually cause no harm. It is a fact that species of roaches are discovered almost all over the planet, excluding those environments that are inhospitable, such as Antartica. Of the over four thousand known species of cockroaches, three varieties choose to live in places also inhabited by humans, where they create chaos and misery.

Distinguishing these cockroaches is pretty easy & can aid in extermination methods. It could be the first step in irradication and control. Here are the 3 major kinds of cockroaches.

American Cockroach

The American cockroach can grow up to 25mm in length. It has a reddish brown color and single stripe on the head. These roaches love the taste of liquor and can often be seen in pubs or at home in case you had a party & didn’t clean up quickly. They have a life span of up to 1 and half years. Their incubation period is from 6 to 8 weeks.

German Cockroach

These kinds of cockroach has 2 lighter stripes on the back of its head, and boast of a brownish or tan color. They can grow up to lengths of 15mm. It is probably the fastest breeding in comparison to its cousins, giving birth to around 30 to 40 nymphs with an incubation period of 30 days. That is relatively fast, seeing one of them can multiply to 30,000 in just a year. These can live for around six months.

Oriental Cockroach

They are probably the biggest of these three. It grows around 25mm in length. These insects move generally slower than the other species & are a dark brown to black with a shiny body. They are often referred to as the ”water bug” since they love dark, damp areas. These roaches are most likely seen in damp mulch or cellars. The duration of incubation could be about 2 months with about 15 eggs hatching and; they can each live for up to two years.
